The True Meaning of Thanksgiving

So let's be honest...how many of us tend to forget the true meaning of Thanksgiving? We understand that it means to be thankful...but how much do we truly reflect? Of course Thanksgiving is a time for family to get together and share traditions and love with one another...and for others it may even include the spirit of Black Friday shopping. But what if you were to think back...from the first day of this year all the way until now and think about everything you have been blessed with? Would it be easy? And would you feel ultimately blessed?

It's so easy to let the busyness and stress of holidays cloud the true meaning and purpose of what these holidays actually represent and are. But for just one second....well, a few minutes...stop and reflect with me on all of the AMAZING and ultimately POSITIVE things God has blessed us with this year.

Here are my top 5 things God has truly blessed me with this year:
1. The rekindling of an old best friend. Now, this is a crazy story in itself, but I am very blessed for this amazing friendship that has come back in my life. Britni and I have known each other since we were 5 years old and we were the best of friends during most of elementary and junior high years. However, right before starting high school, we had a falling out and went our separate ways. All of high school we didn't talk. In fact, I think we pretty much disliked each other very much. But it's funny how God puts people back in your life...and due to our mutual friend passing away, that was what reconnected us. Just this year in February after talking nearly every day...she asked me to be her Matron of Honor. I was absolutely honored by this request and eagerly accepted. Since then...her fiance and her have become family to my husband and I. It's as if time had never passed. We are very blessed to have both of them in our lives.

2. Graduating college with my BS. I first started college in August of 2008, but after meeting Jeremy in November of 2009...we fell so fast and hard in love with one another that we became pregnant with Aiden pretty quickly. I was able to finish my 2 years of college by May of 2010, but had to take a break afterwards. After switching majors, I started Arizona State University in July of 2012 and was blessed to graduate in May of 2014. It was a very long journey, but one that I am truly proud of. God had blessed me consistently when attending college. He allowed me to change majors when I wasn't happy with it and He also allowed me to finish it online, so I could spend my time with Aiden. Graduating this year was a very huge accomplishment for me.

3. Attending Beachbody's Summit for the first time. Summit was such an incredible experience that I will absolutely never forget. I came out a changed person. God knew exactly what He was doing when he gave my husband and I the opportunity to attend. Being surrounded by so many like-minded people who share the same passions, dreams, and visions as yourself is invigorating. I never felt so challenged before...but in such a positive and influential way. Summit was truly one of the best things that happened to me. I gained so much positivity, confidence, knowledge, and above all...friendships. The friendships and bonds that I created because of this event is something I will carry in my heart forever. I met incredible people that I would have never even knew existed otherwise. And because of Summit, I found God's calling and purpose for me.

4. Finding a church that was a perfect fit for my family and I. In my first blog post, I talk about this more in depth; however, this past weekend God blessed my husband and I with the amazing opportunity to become baptized together. It was a day we will never forget, a day that I will always be forever grateful for. This church has become such an important part of our lives and every day I feel so happy that God helped us find it.

5. The creating of a new friendship with an old high school classmate. It's kinda funny how I started this list with friendship and I'm ending it with it too. But God truly works in mysterious ways and our friendship is exact proof of that. Tia and I went to high school together and while I'm sure we saw each other at school, we never talked to one another or even shared a class for that matter. We knew a lot of the same people but were never friends. I do remember talking to her once in school though and it was when we were waiting to see the same guidance counselor. It's funny how life works and it's even funnier how God has a rhyme and reason for everything even when you have zero idea what He is doing behind the scenes. It wasn't until August that we started talking and really getting to know each other. God knew exactly what He was doing. I absolutely feel blessed to have her in my life. And what started off as an old high school classmate, turned into the beginning of an incredibly beautiful and lasting relationship.

So before tomorrow's festivities begin, just take the time and give thanks to God for all that He has blessed you with. Show your family and friends how much they mean to you and how grateful you are for having them in your life.

Until next time...
Xoxo,
Becky
