I couldn't understand why I would rarely feel happiness or be happy. I've come across many "happy" people and it just seemed that happiness had become of them.
But little did I know...that these people weren't happy...they were always full of joy. People who were genuinely joyful. That's why everything they seemed to touch, would grow and bloom...rather than wilt away and die. A contagious smile or feeling that you could catch from just being around them.
Happiness is good, but the thing is...it's only temporary. Happiness isn't lasting. Happiness is how you feel on the outside. It's what you feel when you buy something new. Or even when you win the lottery.
Joy is also good, but there's a difference between happiness and joy. Joy is lasting. Joy is how you feel on the inside. It's what you feel when your child looks into your eyes and says, "I love you." It's what you feel when you give your entire self to others.
...It's what I feel with what I get to do every single day. I get to give my time, my energy, my emotions, my vulnerabilities, my goals, my dreams...myself to others.
Happiness is dependent on the flesh. But Joy is dependent on the spirit.
What do you choose to feed today...your flesh or your spirit?
