Placing the Importance on Christian Values vs. Worldly Values

Do you ever feel conflicted with what your heart is telling you compared to what society is screaming at you? Maybe you feel conflicted about going back to school or maybe you're unsure what you should study? Or maybe it's more personal...maybe it's about if you should get married or if you should have kids? How many kids you should have? Should you get a "real" job outside the home? Or is it okay to stay home?

There are so many questions that we are flooded with on a daily basis. Should we? Shouldn't we? And most of the time we decide what we should do...based on what others tell us to, what society thinks we should be doing, or we look to see what others are doing and feel we should be doing the same.

I have struggled with these exact issues, myself. I am not shielded from these questions, doubts, insecurities. But it wasn't until I realized that I wasn't placing my importance on what God wanted, but instead on what would satisfy others and the desires of society... that I felt a shift. A shift that made me feel like I no longer had to answer or explain myself to anyone...but God.

All throughout the Bible, there are so many scriptures telling us not to become of this world. To not fall in love for the things of this world. Things that only benefit you. And not for the benefit of others or for the advancement of God's Kingdom.

And when we get hung up on status, materialism, money, etc... We lose the understanding of why we were put on this Earth. While God blesses us, He blesses us to bless those around us. To share our wealth (not just money) and love with our neighbors.

That's exactly why Jesus didn't fit in, because he was not of this world. He was so far beyond that. He worked with the poor, the helpless, the broken. He came down and brought himself to our level. And while he lived with so little, he had so much. His heart was so full of love and grace. Just as God's is.

Every time you feel yourself slipping, falling off track from, or losing sight of God... know it's okay. Pray to God to bring you back. To keep your eyes focused on Him at all times. And to always make sure your priorities align with His. God wants nothing more than to bless you, but the blessings come from His Purpose and Plan.
